What is the best CPAP mask?

Our Respiratory Care Practitioner gets this question all the time. The answer? Depends on you! You should always speak to your sleep doctor or Respiratory Care Practitioner when considering changing your mask style. Some patients love nasal pillow masks, while others prefer full face masks. If you have facial hair, some masks work better than others.

Hybrid Mask
Hybrid Mask
Combines nasal pillow and full face. Great for mouth breathers with narrow bridges.

How often should I replace CPAP parts?

CPAP equipment is disposable and is not meant to last for the life of your CPAP Machine. Equipment should be cleaned daily and parts replaced as recommended in order to reduce the risk associated with bacterial and fungal growth. Also, over time your skin releases oils that can reduce the quality and performance of your seal and mask. Our customer service team will work with you and your insurance company to replace your supplies when needed. It is recommended to check with your insurance provider to learn your covered replacement schedule. If a component appears to be worn out, you may want to consider replacing it even if it’s not covered by your insurance. Worn out components can reduce the effectiveness of your sleep therapy!

Manufacturer general guideline on when to replace your equipment:

Mask – every 3 months

Cushions & Pillows for Nasal Masks – every 2 weeks

Cushions for Full Face Mask – 1 per month

Tubing – every 3 months

Air Filters – every 2 weeks

Chinstrap – every 6 months

Frame system – every 3 months

Headgear – every 6 months

Humidifier Water Chamber – every 6 months

How often will insurance pay for a new CPAP or BiPAP Machine?

Most insurances, including MaineCare, will cover a new CPAP or BiPAP machine every 5 years.

Why sleep therapy compliance is important

Today, machines are smart. They upload data to make sure you are using your device. If insurance has paid for your machine, they want to make sure you are using it frequently enough to get positive benefits. You must use your device 70% of the time, or more, in order to keep up compliance. This is why comfort is key.
